Leaders of God's very own private religion........all going straight to heaven upon dying to rule with God's son and the angels in heavenly glory.........controlling the earthly peasants and cajoling them into subservience...... now remember we are much more important than you and your mere family ties (but before the family splits, do assign your will to us with all of your family inheritance first).......if you don't believe we are personally appointed by God, our message to you is: get lost.

21st Century French Connection or How the French got the last Laugh against JWs in Russia
by Slidin Fast inso, this journal mentions fecris, a french sponsored anti-cult ngo active in russia.
i for one knew nothing of that.
it seems that the much vaunted, long-winded financial victory in france kind of back-fired.

I left the organization
by Issa ini left the organization.
my awakening was this month of july, the first week of july.
i couldn't answer my own questions about the organization or the doctrines, i couldn't understand the prophecies, i couldn't figure quite well what i was feeling.

Hi Issa, I'm glad you have made a decision to leave.
From personal experience I suffered a giant family rift even though I faded but I wouldn't have it any other way. I was treated as if I was disfellowshipped by some of my old friends but after a short time I began to feel happy that I had left. After all how can anyone with a real conscience preach at the doors about something they know is not true?
I made my decision to live my own life by my own judgement and choices and my life became much more exciting and meaningful. I'm sure yours will too!
Do keep posting and let us know how you are getting on--you will have opposition but it won't be forever. All the best to you in your escape from the cult.

A review of the WT study, "Do not let your love grow cold."
by doubtfull1799 ina while ago someone (i forget who) was doing a series, a regular analysis, of wt studies from the current week.
i have't seen any for a while so i thought i'd contribute one.
have a bit of fun picking out all the unsubstantiated assertions and logical fallacies etc... so here goes: (if you enjoy it let me know and i might try doing another.

Bravo Doubtful! you wrote:
sadly most of the conditions mentioned as causes for discouragement are not a result of Satan's system, but are just part of life, in fact the opposite may be the case, that they are often exacerbated by Watchtower teachings and lifestyle.
The WT asserts with the blame squarely on "Satan's wicked system"; economic pressures, feelings of inadequacy, unfulfilled expectations and personal failings............
You are absolutely right, it is membership to the WT which is the cause of much of this in the first place!
There is no logic or evidence involved here; just try proving to an intelligent person, not a JW, that these personal failings and inadequacies are due to a wicked spirit! The statement is just a WT catchphrase to blame something other than the org and motivate the unthinking witness. Blame Satan, praise Jehovah is a simple mantra, even an idiot may grasp.
Then as the abuser, the WT supplies its self interested remedy to its captive audience: abject obedience and work harder for the organisation.

They lied about methuselah tree at convention
by hoser inthere was a part about pine trees in california mountains at regional convention.
the brother/organization lied about how old they are.
he said oldest tree is 4200 years old when it is actually 5000 years old.

Good one anony mous, but the fact is that we can date trees by a the system of scientific overlapping.
The growth rings of old trees can be compared under the microscope to the rings of earlier and later trees and we have a continuity of growth patterns making dendrochronology a dating tool for archaeologists and paleontologists etc. It now goes back about twelve thousand years and is used for calibrating radio carbon dating. If there was a world flood in the third millennium BCE dendrochronology would have picked it up.
What it says in the Bible, it aint so reliable.........it aint necessarily so!

@ Unsure, Most of us have been in your shoes and asked ourselves, "What if it is true?" The further you are away from the Wt cult you will find that their teachings become less and less convincing and the whole pattern of their religious indoctrination and abusive control slowly becomes apparent.
Nobody has come up with evidence outside of the Bible that Jesus was a living man. Laughably Nazareth did not exist when Jesus was supposed to have been a child, which fact indicates how much later the writings of the NT were (when Nazareth did exist). Since the miracle working God-man Jesus had already existed as a theatrical saviour character in folk tales for millennia, how stupid it was for the early Christians to believe that a literary character in the plays of of the touring theatres became a living, breathing man? This is one reason the Romans were annoyed by the Christ cults in the first century, for being naive.
The Bible was one of the tools used by the Catholic Church to unite the masses. It most clearly is not inspired, there are no prophecies worth pointing to which give any confidence of a divine writer behind it. The Jesus character got it blatantly wrong (Mark 9,1). It was a work of propaganda selected from many sources to unify all the cults in the Roman world and strengthen and unify the empire in the fourth century. After a further century and a half, Rome fell but the religious imperatives remained and the Catholic hierarchy became even more powerful.
So don't be fearful of Bible threats. They're not worth the parchment they are written on!
@ deegee, I actually meant to quote James Mixon with reference to the parallel of Jesus early life and that of Horus. But I note that you also understand the nature of Biblical text being borrowed from earlier writings and from other cultures. Thank you for the references.

Brainwashing Runs Deep in my Family
by Freesoul ini have successfully faded but my dad can't help but witness to me, so i have decided to do my research and answer him from the bible when he tries to get his point across.. so on my last visit to my parents house, he was trying to tell me that the jw's have the right religion because they go house to house, and got me to read luke chapter 10, so as he is reading it i said, isn't this interesting because in verse 7 says says don't from from house to house.. he couldn't cope with it and started saying i am taking it out of context, i replied this is what the scripture says.
even when it is written in black and white and they are the ones quoting the scriptures they still can see it.. he then said that i am unwilling to see the truth and could not talk any longer, go figure..

JW orthodoxy is a fragile belief, if you were trying to puncture it, it would be like puncturing their emotional inflatable life-raft.
@ Wheel Nut, welcome to the site! How about posting a new topic on the subject of your departure from the cult?

There is no true religion.
by atomant inl came to this conclusion based on the fact that humans are imperfect living in an imperfect world.the bible was written by imperfect human hands and is impossible to interpret with 100% accuracy.religion is man made to help control the masses..

If God exists, she must be sick. However there must be "true religion" because blues singer Leadbelly sang about it.
And by the way Atomant, have you realized that you are holding on to religious propaganda to believe that humans are imperfect?
Why evaluate humanity on Biblical notions of purity? On the same scale of perfection every living thing could be described as "imperfect", snails, raccoons, eagles, voles, beetles, tigers etc. How would a perfect thing look? Why single out humans?
(But don't stop thinking!)

Elaborate myths of the King Osiris had already developed by 4400 years ago in the Pyramid Texts of Egypt. Myth does not follow logic. It is only in mythology where people become other people where death does not end life and where animals can speak.
Myth itself evolves because it is based on concepts about life not about facts but often the core stories of myth revolve around allegories which never change. For example the God Osiris is murdered by Set the evil one which has its basis in the daily rotation of the Earth when darkness overcomes light. This very simple relationship is an example of what underlies all of the ancient tales; most of them having been drawn from astronomical realities.
Osiris (although dead!) had a son Horus through the virgin birth of his mother Isis Meri. As is possible in myth; Horus existed as different people at different times. Later stories made Horus the same as his father Osiris and perhaps that is why Horus resurrected is other self “his friend” Osiris (Osaris Azarus Lazarus). Horus walked on the water; like his father a sun god, he was seen daily walking on water at sunrise with the double image of two suns, two solar deities, one above the other, the exact image of the other. . .
@Deegee, Horus was with his mother and step father Sep, until twelve years old when he became the son of his heavenly father with no biographic details in the meantime, from twelve to thirty there is no record of Horus. At thirty years old he was baptised by Anup (=John) and symbolically blessed by his heavenly father in the form of a bird.
In answer to the OP. We do have ample evidence of the existence of Jesus outside of the Bible; he is a focal character-- under different names, of supernatural tales which descended from ancient mythology. It was a cheap manoeuvre to swap names but why spoil a good story from another culture!
The Romans never knew of a man who could resurrect the dead; if Jesus really existed they would most surely have recorded the appearance of such a man. However it is so highly unlikely that a figure from fiction could be born and start to breathe, that I would place the Bible’s account of Jesus into the realm of supernatural folk tales.

No brain, No Life -- says JW Professor Rajesh Kalaria
by cognisonance inso continuing my review of the current bull shit my family in this cult are subjected to i found this article about professor rajesh kalaria, a jw since 1973 and a scientist who has studied the human brain for 40 years (hmm... so he converted into this cult very early in his career it seems).anyway i also found this jw broadcasting piece about him where he says:.
“and brain is what we are; what i am, what you are.
no brain, no life.

Yes I agree Cognisonance, any prolonged investigaton into the matter of mass resurrection rings hollow and improbable in the extreme.
But hang on a moment, the WT make out that the worldly wisdom is not an authority to be trusted, academic teachings are derided and dismissed....... unless that is, it belongs to a JW and they can make capital out of it to impress other JWs.
The Watchtower always uses two sets of scales.
